Foam fire extinguisher can be used on Class A and B fires. They are most suited to extinguishing liquid fires such as petrol or diesel and are more versatile than water jet extinguishers because they can also be used on solids such as wood and paper. The foam extinguishes liquid fires by sealing the surface of the liquid, preventing flammable vapor reaching the air and starving the fire of fuel. They are not suitable for use on free flowing liquid fires<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Its used for AFFF (Aqueous Film Forming Foams) and is suitable to fight burning solids<\/a> such as wood as well as liquid fires such as burning petrol<\/b>. The foam has the ability to creep over the burning liquid or to soak into burning materials such as settees<\/span><\/span>.<\/p>\n

What should you not use on?<\/div>\n
Foam extinguisher is also safe for use on flammable liquid fire.They CANNOT be used on electrical fires or flammable metal fires<\/b> as this extinguisher could end up exacerbating the fire.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

Oxygen can effectively sustain a fire, and so it’s important that it’s removed from the triangle to prevent the spread of a fire. Its removal can be achieved by using either a carbon dioxide<\/b> or a foam fire extinguisher.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

Several pros exist with the use of a foam fire extinguisher, these are listed as follows:<\/p>\n

  • The extinguisher is a non-toxic choice<\/li>\n
  • It will not damage most materials<\/li>\n
  • If used by accident on electrical fires there is a high chance that it will be safe (of course, this is not recommended)<\/li>\n
  • The design reduces the risk of the fire re-igniting<\/li>\n
